Digital imaging allows photographers three options to process their work- (1) as-is from the camera (2) use digital imaging software to be totally creative, even abstract or (3) use digital imaging somewhere in the middle of the first two options with minor tweaks. I usually use the middle option and pre-visualize the shot knowing the effect wanted when I go to process in my digital darkroom.
This week I spent several hours shooting Spring cactus flowers and realized I had taken the same cactus flower images the last two years. So it was time for a change and I decided to process the embedded files as creative watercolor paintings:

I took my own advice from my last Blog post and shot this close-up image in our front yard this morning in the rain.

Close-up photography images are often my most creative and captivating shots that I bring home from far away destinations or even images taken in a neighborhood or local community.
Some people who only take landscape or scenic photographs think that close-up shots have to be life-size (or a 1:1 ratio) that require a macro DSLR lens or a macro function on a point-and-shoot- camera. Close-up shots are nothing more than shots of a small portion of an object (e.g., a fence post, a sign on a wall, an automobile fender or hood ornament) or a textured or patterned surface virtually at your finger tips.
Accurate focusing and lighting conditions are critical to achieving a close-up shot as depth-of-field can be extremely tight.
Close-up photography can stimulate your creative mind when landscapes, city scenes or travel shots are limited due to lighting, congestion, or even uninteresting views. The next time you are out and about with your camera at a local event or on your next trip look for a few close-up shots. You might just discover your creative side.
Attached are a few examples that I consider close-up images that I have taken locally and on vacations far from home.

I am officially opening my on-line fine art images gallery today!!
This is very exciting for me since I have been retired for two years this month and I am finally fulfilling my life-long dream of having my own photography gallery.
All of my friends and associates are invited o view my portfolio at www.shadowandlightgallery.com.
The website has been set-up with six galleries to display my favorite images:
> Flora
> Flora-Poppies
> International
> United States
> Events
> Still Life
My Blog will be used to update viewers about new images added to my gallery and include news on my recent photo shoots from local California areas or other travels such as Alaska later this summer.
I especially want to thank Eric, Kyle, Amanda, Shawn and my wife Trisha for their support in helping me create my website and blog.
